Swarms of anime fans gathered to the Hilton from far and wide for the once-a-year event known as Otaku Con, O-Con. A menagerie of fans dressed as their favorite characters filled the lobby, creating an unusual away of sites, sounds, and unfortunately scents. The biggest anime convention this year, O-Con attracted people from all over Japan, and a few foreign tourists as well. The hotels were over crowded, and it seemed like anybody within a mile radius was there for the convention. It was only day one, and the situation was already like a party, with fans diving into the fountain in the lobby and holding parties in the hall ways. Despite the hotel guards' best efforts, it looked like O-Con was going to be one big bash.
Dazzle was always a fan of anime, being introduced to it at a young age. In fact, that is part of the reason he chose Japan as the place to visit for his study abroad program. Besides having the prestigious To-Oh University, Japan boasted a culture and television programming that interested him. Now was his chance to participate in something that he had always admired from afar.
Although he never had been to a convention before, he wanted to make sure he came out of the starting gate running. He pre-orded tickets and a room, and decided to dress as an anime character, or "cosplay." He decided that he made a pretty good Vash the Stampede from Trigun, and with the help of a few thrift stores, he put together a decent costume. With his blond hair slicked up and a new pair of shades, he was ready to roll in his red trench coat. He decided that it was best to leave his imitation guns at home, as it probably would not be a good idea for a foreign student to be carrying those around.
Upon arrival at the hotel, he felt like he truely was in Japan. Martial Artists, Godzilla, Video Games, Pokemon; This was the iconic image of Japan that he had envisioned. Fellow anime fans like him gathered to create a surreal environment, almost creating an anime within itself. This experience was everything that he had imagined and more. "This is going to be an awesome weekend," he thought to himself. "Time to go get my room..."
He got into the line marked, "RESERVATIONS," and although a half an hour early, there was already a formidable line of bodies in front of him. Patiently he waited, humming his favorite J-Rock songs to himself, until the line finally dwindled. "Room 23B," said the young woman behind the counter, who was dressed-to-impress in her Bulma costume. He got out of the line and returned to the center of the lobby. "Let's see what they've got here," he thought, "Before I go up to my room..."
He gawked at the magnificent and some not-so-magnificent sights of the cosplay, and saw that several people had set up illigetimate "shops" in the lobby. He began to browse their wares, which consisted mainly of bootlegs of all kinds. After settling upon a set of Gundam DVD's dubbed in German, he wandered through the lobby, wondering what might be in store for him at this magical place...

Ket walked into the lobby of the crowded hotel, The Hilton. Though it was just one of the many places in Japan one could go and stay the night, there was apparently something special about this weekend. Ketsueki knew that Takitsu would be here today; something about cosplaying. Though Ket lived out on the streets, she did have basic knowledge of anime(come on, she was in Japan afterall), but, never having watched any, she could not really see the allure of dressing up as a character and parading around all day. She was already living as a new person, why would she want to go through the trouble of being somebody else, again?
Looking around, her senses were assaulted by a vast array of colors, loud sounds, and a touch of body odor. There were people walking around in all sorts of unrealistic garb, many of their hair and even skin colors were equally, if not more so, odd. She did have to admit, it was kind of amusing. Ket briefly let herself smile. “This might me fun.” Looking down at herself, she felt that she must look so different from all the cosplaying people. She chose a simply, white button down, paired with a low slung plaid skirt, and a pair of her usual spandex shorts. Today’s pair were a purplish color. The of course there were her combat boots, scuffed and worn in comfortably. Adjusting the strap that held the sheath of her dagger as if loosened and slipped down her thigh, she shifted her expression back to one of indifference. She tugged at a long lock of her vermilion colored hair, having left it down today.
Walking into the center of the lobby, she leaned against a support column as she watched the people around her. “Where is Takitsu…” Her tone was soft, and almost wistful. She had to admit, she really did want to see her. She leaned her had back, observing the little areas where people were selling all sorts of things. She noticed one stand had small boxes of pocky for sale, and they were even affordable for Ket. Thinking for a moment, she knew Takitsu liked pocky, but Ket had never tried it herself. Deciding to live a little, she walked over and purchased a box of chocolate almond pocky. “Hey, your Lady cosplay is missing a few things.” The vendor chuckled a bit, skimming over Ket’s appearance lightly. “Lady cosplay?” She tilted her head slightly to the side, frowning a bit. She wasn’t cosplaying….
“Yeah, from Devil May Cry 3, the game… You look just like her except for the hair and Kalina Ann.” He chuckled again as Ket tried to figure out what he was talking about. “I assure you, this is normal garb for me.” Suddenly interested, she decided to ask the man a few questions. “But, what would it be that I would need to say…complete the outfit?” Oh hell, why not? It was only a weekend thing. “Well, a short black wig would- well just look at that girl just over there.” The man had pointed to a young girl dressed in clothes much like Ket’s, only she wore her hair short and black, flipping out at the ends slightly, and carried what looked like a few pipes fashioned into a huge gun, a large blade adorning its front. Were the girl’s eyes two different colors?
“Hmm… interesting. Thank you.” She paid the man and walked back to the column and opened her box of pocky, pulling out a stick. Looking at it curiously, she turned the stick over a few times. There were bits of almonds stuck into the chocolate covering the little biscut-like stick. Looking at the little treat, she idly wondered where she could get a black wig…
