Ed nodded. "True, and I understand that it was easy to deduce, but perhaps you haven't considered what this means. It means none of you are truly safe, unless you stay in hiding. L? It doesn't matter if he uses his real name or not. He'll die, if the second Kira wants him to. This is why he needs someone like me. I've always wanted to show that I can be the best there is. And, if it requires me to risk my life, then so be it. I'm willing to die for this cause."
He sighed. "Tell me, is there anything in the case that doesn't add up? Anything you need help with? I always did prefer answering questions."

" that is the difference between you and I Mister E," she said with a smile, " I know I am not truly safe, it is a danger for me to even be here in the open talking to you about something like this with such ease knowing that there are people out there who are more than willing to give our names and pictures to kira. But I dont put myself in this kind of danger to prove anything. I dont fight to prove a girl can do a mans job, nor that a kid my age has the potential, I do it because it is our job. You can come back with me by all means and prove yourself to L, but i promise you dear it shouldnt make a difference."
" As for now, I just want to hear what you infer, such as your willingness to take things to another level in this investigation," her eyes sparkled, " let me see you take that step required."

Ed smirked. "I like you, kid. Something about you, reminds me of me. Well, a more well versed version of me. And less volatile. If I were a woman..."
He laughed. "You get what I mean." He took a swig from the milk carton. "The only reason I'm helping you, if because I can tell you have the same ideals as I do. It's our job to catch Kira, and nothing more. Our lives don't matter. The only thing that matters is winning. Frankly, I dislike seeing a kid put her life on the line, but that's not up to me. It's up to you, and your will. I made my peace with whatever god is out there long ago."
He sighed, and finished off his milk. "You know, why not ask L? He's already got suspects, I'm sure. Considering he didn't even ask about my offer. The fact is, I'd have thought you'd go to him, considering his close ties with Whammy's, and the fact that this is really his case..."

She smirked, " Dont get twisted dear," she looked down at the cup and looked a little bit dissapointed it was gone, but she was awake, so the thinking process was clearer, " If i were to survive a near death experience like the one i had, then my role in life be a bit more meaningful than just being a pawn, but a job is a job and i plan to do it well no matter what." she began nibbling on the doughnut and just smiled. " It breaks a lit of people's hearts to see me this way, but everyone accepts it eventually, though i fear when my day comes there will be mourners no matter what you say about it."
(srry for the short post i have to go back to my house in a bit and i have to log off here! see you in a bit)

Ed laughed. "Even pawns can checkmate, dear..." The last word said with sarcasm. "I'll tell you something, there's no reason not to want mourners. When you die, the more mourners generally means you've done well with your life. Though I doubt you'll be the first to pass out of the two of us, I can safely say I'd be one of the mourners. Not because I truly knew you, but because an enemy of an enemy is a friend. And any friend deserves my grief."
He smiled. "Yes, grief. I feel emotions, like anyone else. I just don't let them get in the way." He called the waitress over. "Give her a refill, please. And add sugar. Lots of sugar. In fact, sugar with added coffee is probably the better term..." He laughed. "I don't need you spacing out because your drink is gone."

Kagumi cracked a smile, she hadnt heard a chess refference in such a long time, " sometimes when you grow up having people despise your being you soon come to expect that there is nothing for you but what hasnt gone away. I would be surprised if upon my death there are any mourners, but i hardly have friends and even those might go away in time." she nibbled on the chocolate chip muffin with a small smile on her face, " But it is nice to know you would if you could. I appreciate i very much."
Her hands were fiddling a bit as he got the waitress to get her more coffee. She usually had coffee around this time, but she had to figure the small cup wasnt enough, all of her blood was probably replaced with sugar by now. she didnt have diabetes which they thought was a miracle, but with her malnourishment she probably was living off of it. she gave a small smile, " thank you miss," she turned back to him, " ive been under worse conditions."

Ed nodded. He decided not to pry about her past. "So, tell me. When is the soonest we can leave? I'd like to be in Japan as soon as possible." He smiled. "That means this conflict is going to be over sooner, rather than later. I'm going to get Kira, and prove I'm the best. L might have all the other cases to his name, but this is going to be the highlight of everything I've done."
He yawned. "I'm looking forward to the thrill of the chase. It's going to be exhilarating."

he nodded and said nothing further. which was fine with Kagumi, she didnt really want to bring up too much about her past present or future, h just needed to know what he needed to know. first was the flight time. she saw in her mind the flight schedule with clarity, thinking about the next flight times from amrica to japan as if she had it in front of her. " the soonest time is for a few hours, enough for me to make an adjustment or two, you have time no need to worry," though she was a bit concerned for him, he seemed very confident in what he was doing.
" But dont get too cocky sir, i dont want anything horrible happening because you made a stupid mistake," she added, part of her was just a bit annoyed with him for trying to threaten it, but she supressed it one more time, " it will be fun, but it is better just for you to work with it and try to get it done then worry now about who is the best." she was already beginning to tie back her hair and adjust her clothing to make her look more childish for the flight

Ed laughed. "What I'm trying to say is, I'm the best. I don't have to try to prove that. Kira's good, but I'm better." He threw the milk carton over at the recycle bin in the corner, missing. "Damn. That's one thing I'm not the best at..." He walked over, and threw it back in. Laying down some money, he smirked. "Give her a big tip, I've had her deal with a lot today. Plus, if you need to finish that coffee, bring it with you."
Walking out onto the street, he crossed. "I suppose I'll have to stop home and grab my things. I've been packed for this trip for a while now. Where should I meet you?"

Kagumi flashed the boy a defeated sigh, even L would be able to admit some faults ( though it took effort) but he seemed so sure that he would win, that he would even make it out alive and victorious. Kagumi had found working that she couldnt really let her ego get in the way of what was really important that was just to solve it and get it over with. But now it was being turned onto a contest of which detective would reach him first, it wasnt like they would exactly become heroes with all of the kira hype. in fact, to find out that they were responsible would probably have them killed.
despite all of that, she put a 20 on the table for her, " this should be enough." she picked up the cup and crossed the street with him sipping the coffee, " Just at the airport, go in some school clothes, dont dress like a cop or anything, no suits or dark clothes, no questions just come in a school uniform." she had no reason to explain anything, she was getting him into japan, if he didnt wanna play, he just wouldnt go.

Ed sighed, and walked himself back to his house, ready for the trip that would obviously change his life...
--2 hours later--
Ed arrived at the airport, dressed in his old school uniform. It was quite tight on him, which he despised. He had taken care of his body, of course, but for god's sake, he had not even gone to college. In his hand he carried a small bag full of his clothes, and necessary items. She had told him the flight would leave in a few hours, so he had decided to arrive a couple hours later.
Normally, he would have disregarded her opinion on his dress, but in this case, he did not want to risk losing his trip. He looked around for her, wondering where she would be...

" 2 hours, right on the dot."
With a manaical chuckle, Kagumi checked the small sports watch on her wrist. She told him two hours, she meant two hours, whether he was here or not, she didnt know or care, but if he knew what was best for him and his fruitless pursuits, he'd play her game.
The girl he met in the streets was not the same girl he saw today. long black hair had been brushed out and pulled into two long pigtails, black bangs hanging where the hair couldnt fit. she wore her bright blue shirt and overall dress. covered with a pitch black oversized hoodie cloth jacket that was as long as the dress. the sleeves of it were an inch and a half past her long fingers and hanging from the silver zipper was an apple emblem. she wore her white running shoes without socks and a girlish anklet with happy clouds smiling down at them. overall she looked at least 3 years younger and with the green contacts, she looked like a different person. the only thing that she couldnt change were her sleepless eyes, but it didnt make a difference.
she held in one hand, a pink backpack full of all of the things she needed, clothes and necessary forgeries. and on the other hand was a lime green floppy bunny rabbit, which dangled lifelessly as she dragged it and walked through the terminal. she looked out to their plane with a smile. it didnt matter if she couldnt find him, she could always bring him to her. all it took was practice. time for the show.
In charachter now, she stopped in her tracks looked left and right frantically, " Eddie?" she asked in a cuter younger voice, " eddie?!" she asked. she started to walk back, with a more frightened pace. looking as if she couldnt find him, she sat near a set of terminal benches and started to cry loudly. wiping her tears with her bunny's paw. a manin a suit passec her by, taking a look at hr then finally walking up to her " have you seen my big brother mister?" se asked through her croc tears, hiccoughing for effect. " Im" hc!" lost and i cant" hic " FIND HIM!" she continued to cry

Ed suddenly heard a ruckus coming from an area to the right of him, at about 2 o'clock. Someone was calling for an 'Eddie'. It couldn't be...
But it was. As he listened, it was her voice. Granted, she was changing it to make herself sound scared and young, but without a doubt, that was her. "Damn her..." He muttered to himself. She had wanted him to play a game. Fine, he'd play along.
He immediately changed his expression, to one of deep concern, ruffled his hair a tad, quickly, and rubbed his eyes a bit. He forced tears to nearly well up in them, giving the impression that he was on the verge of sobbing. He then frantically, nudging several others on the way, ran near the source of the noise.
"Jen??? JEN!!!" He yelled, his voice full of concern. He ran to her, panting slightly. "I've been looking everywhere for you. How many times have I told you to stick close to me? I told you it was going to be busy!" He was not yelling, but talking in a raised voice. He sounded half angry, half relieved. Perfect...

as she continued to cry, her mind was working at a mile a minute on what to do next. she now had to fit in the concept of parents into the situation without scaring the men, or allowing them to call security to help find her so called parents. she could tell them her parents were on the plane, but that would be way too easy for her. she could get on the plane with no effort at all, but she had to have her fun to get him on. if he felt he was higher than anyone else, he had to EARN his way on like a normal person.
speak of the devil
from the corner of her eye she could see Ed come up to her screaming her fake name, inside she gave a devious smile but kept her worried childlike look. " I'm sorry," she held out the rabbit wiping a tear ," but floppy bunny was thirsty! I wasnt going to let him die!" she she sniffled, her lip portruding in a pout. for added effect, she pulled her bunny into a hug and went inward. the man in a suit looked truly concerned.
" this is your brother?"
she nodded
" I had to find my brother," she sniffled and hiccoughed, " he had the tickets to get on! if we dont I wont see mommy or daddy!" she gave another cry. of course she had everything needed, down to the forged note saying everything, she glared, " if...we...miss...them....its....your...FAULT!"

Ed inwardly cringed. He knew it was all an act, yet he felt tempted to punt this brat back to Japan. But, then, he couldn't punt himself, so he'd have to play along. "Well, Jen, next time stay close to me, and I'll feed floppy. You know I had drinks..." Luckily for him, he HAD packed a few bottles of soda in his bag, so if the question were brought up, he could take them out.
"We should get going, Jen, we don't want to be late. Otherwise, we'll miss mommy and daddy..." He patted her on the head and extended his hand to lead her on. "I'm so sorry, sir. She's got a habit of doing things on her own, ever since she was younger. I lost sight of her for one minute, and she was gone." He bowed his head in apology, and waited for 'Jen' to come with him...
