The Kingdom

A QUICK HISTORY[/center]

The Kingdom is older than anyone knows, and there are many many stories about how it was first conquered by Ferius Mauntell, whose family still rules the kingdom today. Over two hundred years after that conquest King Garris Mauntell took the throne, and that is where this story begins.

In legend there is one thing that all kings need fear, and that is the anomalies. The anomalies are prophesied to be a small group of mages that will bring about the downfall of the Mauntell line. They had always been regarded as legend and myth, but during that time, more and more powerful mages were being born, and King Garris began to worry...

He began to stomp out magic of all kinds, especially if it was not from a noble family. But after a while, even noble children were not safe from the mad king. Slowly but surely, magic began to fade from the lives of the common people. After the death of King Garris, there were hardly any mages left in the kingdom at all except among the upper nobility.

TWO HUNDRED FIFTY YEARS LATER, THE PRESENT DAY

King Marick is in the seventh year of his reign, generations after the Mad King Garris's death. Magic had all but vanished from the streets, only the royal line and a few of the greater lords laying any claim to magic in their families. The few children who were born with powers were born with the weakest powers and taught by the Grand Mage. The Grand Mage was old, near to ancient and is one of the few who even remembered magic being commonplace.

But then... more and more children began to be born with powers. More and more there noble children would accidentally setting things on fire. King Marick was not frightened by this, but some of his councilors remember the prophecy that drove his ancestor to madness.

When he saw that the King would not do so, the high Lord Ceris took matters into his own hands, and began to dispose of any children he thought too powerful, or out of place. It takes months before the crown finds out what is going on and moves to stop the murders. But by then it is too late. Lord Ceris was put to death, but his followers continued to murder even without him at their head.

In an effort to protect his people, King Marick formed a school where magical children would be safe while learning to control their powers. He sent the Grand Mage there with any children that they could find, and it has been ten years since. No one knows where the school is, and the murders have slowed down, though they have not ceased, as the crown cannot wrangle up all of Ceris's old followers.

However, little does anyone know, but the anomalies are already grown, even if they do not yet know who they are, or their own destiny...
