[Neko]

It had been awhile since Neko had gone to class. Sighing, the redhead pulled her thick tresses into a ponytail. They had been down, for now. Her amethyst optics narrowed at the class standings. Shifting a bit, she stepped closer to it, and looked at them "Raito Yagami...Second...Hideki Ryuuga...first...Hmph...seems it hasn't changed all that much." She sighed and her eyes narrowed at hers "...Last...as usual..I don't even know why I bother."

I try my hardest yet I'm always last...Do the professors dislike me that much? She thought. Straightening her t-shirt. Her shirt was of a dark raspberry hue, with a star and moon on it, held up by a clawed hand. She sighed, and brushed some lint off her slim blue jeans. The studded belt winked in the sunlight, as she continued on her way. She dug her cellphone out of her pocket, and put it back. Who was she expecting to call? Next to no one had her number. She crossed her arms, and kept walking, a thoughtful look on her face. She wanted to go to class, but, something was nagging at the back of her mind, and she wasn't sure what it was.

Jake’s first week at To-Oh was fully what he had expected it to have been, work. There was no way any college in America was this difficult; even Yale failed to live up to this. Jake reasoned that the Japanese, as a whole, generally, were simply very devoted to their chosen field, and he, as an American, failed to grasp it fully. He smirked.

Or maybe my Japanese just isn’t that advanced.

He chuckled, changing his hypothesis to the simpler one.

Jake had just finished a class on economics, however, unlike the other students who were almost throwing themselves out the door, he took his time. He yawned and put his books in his bag; he sat up out of his chair; and he walked with his same slow gait out the door, to which the professor only raised an eyebrow, this slow American quite different from the usually fast-paced Tokyo dwellers. Regardless of his professor’s opinions, though, Jake walked as he did out the door, looking both ways down the hallway as if it were a street. (And it may as well have been a street. The business end of a tardy Tokyo citizen did about as much damage as a car; in Jake’s eyes, anyway.) Finding nothing that could knock him flat on his back, he continued on, taking a turn to go outside, his glasses almost immediately turning near black at the sight of the sun. Then he spotted someone, someone that, to him, looked to be thinking about something with a fair amount of concentration. His curiosity tempted, he gave her a wave and a konnichi wa, stopping on the path about three feet from her.

“Sorry, I don’t think I’ve seen you around. My name’s Jak- er, Walsh Jacob.” He said with a slight American accent.

[Neko]

She stopped hearing a voice. Looking over she saw a male. Her thoughts were interrupted by him speaking, and by the slight accented way he was speaking, he was most likely American. Amethyst gazed narrowed slightly, and she smiled just a little.


"My name is Neko..Tsukino, Neko" She replied, a calculating glint in her gaze. Her people skills needed work, that much she knew.

“Ah, cool, good to meet you.” He said, returning the smile, the sunlight glinting off of his glasses, shielding his eyes from observation.

Cat? That’s kind of a weird name… But, then, this is Japan. Its reputation practically precedes it. He inwardly smirked, finding it funny that a name virtually from an anime should belong to someone in reality, let alone someone who went to an extremely prestigious school and most likely came from an equally prestigious family. Well, for all I know, they could’ve wanted her to be different, and naming someone cat would certainly do that, although I’m sure there are other ways. They could’ve named her something English sounding, for instance, I guess. Not only would it be an actual name, but it would have an exotic flair. In his mind, he rolled his eyes at himself. Does it really matter, anyway? If you’re so curious, ask her yourself.

Deciding to take his own advice and broadcast his thoughts to the world outside, he inquired, “So, Neko, that’s unique. Is it a nickname or something?

[Neko]

"Actually it is" Neko replied "But I don't give my real name out to anyone...For safety reasons, of course" She shrugged "Kira's unpredictable, and I don't want anyone knowing my real name until I KNOW it is safe to do so" She crossed her arms "Truthfully, it is a name I have given myself, in order to be different from others. As you can probably tell..I am not like anyone else." She ran a hand through her deep crimson tresses.

Jake metaphorically blinked. Why would her name have anything to do with Kira? For all they told the public in the States, Kira just killed off criminals seemingly without effort. Jake honestly hadn’t even considered that there would be certain conditions regarding his ability to kill.

So if what she says is true, that means that Kira’s powers follow some set of rules. Is it a personal restriction, maybe to add more challenge? Well, wait, then he would be treating this like a game, not to mention be giving L an even larger advantage, and a tactical thinker like him? No, I don’t see that.

Of course, Jacob was ignorant of L’s broadcast in the Kanto region. Seeing as he was not only out of country, but out of continent, he remained strongly in the dark regarding L’s deductions on that night. (The American press chose to only highlight that Kira was, indeed, in Japan, thereby clearing the U.S. from international controversy.)

“So, wait, you mean to say that Kira needs a name to kill? That’s interesting. What happens if two people have the same name, like John Smi- Er, wait. What’s a really standard Japanese name?” He struggled for an analogy, as John Smith wouldn’t necessarily be as familiar to a Japanese citizen as it would an American one. “Um, just forget it. What happens if two people share a name? Do they both die, or what? And how do you know that, anyway?”

His curiosity kicked into overdrive, another detail of the most interesting man on Earth falling into his lap.

[Neko]

Neko blinked. The thought hadn't occured to her,quite honestly, so she didn't know.

"Honestly? I don't know" She replied,and crossed her arms, her features regaining their thoughtful air. "I mean...It is a question I have thought of a lot myself..but..I cannot come up with a solution..." She shrugged "Perhaps two sharing the same name both die?" She said thoughtfully. "That seems to be the only logical explanation..."

Jake put a hand to his chin, pondering the new conundrum. If Kira killed everyone on the planet with a specific name, it would be a PR nightmare. No, that couldn’t be it.

Then what? Maybe he needs something else, like a combination of things. Or maybe it’s like a search engine, like he specifies what name, age, gender, ethnicity, et cetera. That sounds more likely. Well, whatever his method, that’s a new piece of information to file away.

Anyway, back to how she knew that. Is she a follower of Kira? I’d heard they had them over here in Japan. Maybe she’s even close to him, and feigned ignorance when she figured she’d said too much. He sighed in his mind. Damnit, I’m seriously over-thinking this. Taking the hand from his chin, he replaced it in his pocket, looking to the girl with only a slight change in his gaze.

“So, how exactly do you know this, anyway? Doesn’t seem like Kira would announce his rulebook to the public.”

Heh, knowing my luck, that’s probably exactly what he did. He chuckled lightly to himself, the laugh, though, seeming to go along better with his previously spoken comment.

[Neko]

Neko snorted in disdain "Kira does not make mistakes like that'" She replied.She shrugged a bit, and ran a hand distractedly through her hair. Numerous thoughts were running through her mind, a headache coming on from thinking too much about this question and how the hell she was ever going to meet Kira. However, her tone when she spoke, had been defensive, which could easily give away the fact that she supported Kira's work.


"I am unsure how everything is happening, truth be told" She replied. "I find the aspect of Kira and L rather confusing. However, I do think Kira is somewhat in the right, with killing the criminals so they cannot do anymore harm. But the way he's doing it I don't entirely agree with"

She's avoiding the question. He thought as he observed her answer, a grimace, if it were possible, overcoming his gaze. He internally shrugged, though, and put it off 'til later. She'd be on her guard now; it wouldn't be worth trying to pry any more information out of her. Instead, for the sake of argument, he temporarily took up a stance slightly contradictory to her own.

"And what would you propose doing with the criminals? Isolating them all on some seperated plane? Because there's this place called Austrailia that tried something like that once."

[Neko]

"Quite honestly, I'd get rid of the lot of them if I could" Neko admitted "The sooner they're gone the better...then maybe we can all relax a little,knowing we're safe for awhile" She shrugged, and leaned against a post. Her deep amethyst eyes narrowed a bit in thought.

However..If Kira gets rid of them sooner than later we'll all be alright....the sooner he gets rid of the evil in the world the better... She thought, and scratched behind her neck a bit.

She's bluffing. He thought, smirking on the inside. She just contradicted herself entirely. "I disagree with the way he's getting rid of criminals." and "Quite honestly, I'd get rid of the whole lot of them if I could."

"Really now?" He said, managing to mask his morbid satisfaction at her hypocrisy. "I thought you just said you disagreed with Kira's methods?"

[Neko]

"I do, but I still want to get rid of them" She replied, crossing her arms "...Kira's methods aren't exactly what I'd agree with, but I still want to get rid of the criminals. They're a nuisance to society and need to be dealt with, for eternity" She stated, defending herself in a way. "...I don't like those who steal and lie...They deserve what they get..." She sighed, and looked away.

"To me," Jake started, "That sounds like a pretty childish attitude. Think about it, you want to get rid of all the criminals, including the ones in prison, mind you, and, yet you don't want them to die. That's like having your cake and eating it too." He folded his arms and look to her, awaiting her next move in their verbal game of chess. He didn't know when he had decided to grill her, but, having already arrived at the fact, he had no qualms about continuing.

[Neko]

She crossed her arms "You obviously are not listening, I said I want them rid of..not to die, which is why I don't agree completely with Kira's methods" She stated, "Maybe send them off somewhere far, far away and never hear from them again." She stated, her amethyst gaze narrowing, annoyance threaded it's way through her veins "..I don't wish to speak of this anymore, you are annoying me with your constant talking" Quite honestly, Neko was enjoying herself, but she had other things on her mind at the current moment.


Like finding out who Kira was and meeting him for once!

She sighed, and pushed her bangs out of her face, "Excuse me...I have things to do" She said, and turned to leave.
