Sigh that was the only word that came to mind for Kaori Hitomi, or rather Yumi Kohaku, as she travled up and down the streets of Tokyo, Japan. Frowning she was trying to get her bounderies and decided to go searching, not to mention see if she could find any information on Kira. Glaring, her own body seemed to stiffen in defiance as she even thought of the name. She was bound and determined to find the bastard and put him away for good, or rather help L anyways.
While looking around she managed to ask around and found a nice little cafe on the corner of a simple street and seemed to be getting the same answers. "Oh you're visiting? Well you'll have to go to the Casual Cafe, it's just down the road; they have excellent cheesecakes of many kinds." That was enough to seen the woman off and running towards it. You spoke cheesecake to her and it send her in the sole direction of it's designated area. Which unfortunatlely happened to be the small cafe. Entering the front door she already spotted several people there and sighed as she had to wait in line.
Searching through the menu a host asked her to go sit down and she chose a spot near the window. Her blond hair seemed to attract some attention as she heard a couple of guys from the University talking about her. Oh, of course she could read them easily, but then again their sweaters were a dead give-away. TO-OH U stood out loud and proud on their sweaters as they kept glancing her way.
Sighing she cursed her appearance; the twenty-four year old woman looked like an eighteen year old girl. Suddenly one of the boys approached her and muttered something and Kaori smirked. "Listen sweetheart, don't get me wrong, you're cute and all but let's face it; I can do better." she said simply before turning back to the menu and the boy returning back to his friends.
Once more Kaori looked around and ordered strawberry cheesecake with a chocolate shake and smiling kindly returned to her psychology book which she had forgotten she was holding the entire time. Running through several of the chapters within the ten minute wait period Kaori began to dig into her dessert and smiled pleasingly. She was thrilling that Japan at least had descent desserts, Well L is here, they should. she thought while laughing to herself. Suddenly someone else approached her table and she set down her fork. "Sweetie, I already told you're friend that I don't want anything right now, what makes you think you're different?[/i] she asked while skimming the pages.

Mathew was already in the Cafe in line when the woman entered, not finding any reason to take note of her other then the fact that she was attractive like so many other women he would turn back to the display in front of him. He was deciding what he wanted before it was his turn, he hated waiting in line and wanted to be done with it as soon as possible.
When it was finally his turn to order he was ready with money in hand. Without hesitation he would order the strawberry cheesecake before moving off to the side to let the next person in line go. That was when it happened. One of the less classy kids from his school approached the woman he had taken note of before and hit on her only to be shot down in front of everyone in what Mathew would have to say was a brutal and hilarious way. He couldn't help but laugh, covering his mouth with his arm to try and muffle his laughter at the embarrassment of his "peer".
It was certainly a good pick me up for the young man's day and he would start on his cake watching as the lady passed him by only to be approached by another guy from the same group. The humor was fading from the situation rapidly and it was becoming sad. He heard her shoot the boy down and before he would retort Mathew would put his hand on the boy's shoulder gently moving him out of the way before sitting down across from the lady flashing her a friendly smile as he spoke hoping she would get the hint.
"Hey sweety, sorry I didn't see you come in, I was waiting for you. How was work?" He would ask trying to give off the vibe that he was with her to the other losers in the cafe so that they would just back off. And besides it made him look good, providing she got the hint that is. Though he wasn't REALLY looking for anything to happen. She was cute and all, but for all he knew she really could be taken. Or just not his type. But that would all come out after this loser was dealt with.

Kaori looked up and saw a new man come up just before she said something else. "Hey sweety, sorry I didn't see you come in, I was waiting for you. How was work?" A light smile played on her lips and her eyes glowed with admiration, "No it's okay, I figured you had already left, I was running late. Work was efficent, how was your day darling?" the word came out almost in a dry manner, she never used that term before in her life so it was strange and odd to her. "I'm just glad I didn't die this time, did you know I actually shot him this time?" she told him falsely and she could see the young man backing off and mumbling an apology before running off to his friends, tail between his legs.
Sighing she swished her hair back gently with a gratetful smile, "Thanks for that, honestly kids today." she muttered to herself before flipping through her book. Taking a small sip of her chocolate malt Kaori now felt uneasy, she wondered why did that for her, "What made you do something? I could have handled it, not that it wasn't appreciated or anything." she didn't want her 'savior' to get the wrong idea and for her to sound ungrateful for the help but she was curious as to why this stranger chose to help her.
It was odd in this era for a person to go up to a random stranger and help them out. Sure you had those people who gave money to others out of pity on the streets but this was different, actually interacting with others wasn't something merely anyone would do. Confident that people will accept his help, willing to go out of his way to protect others, but quick to think that people will accept his offer, haughty? Hm.....maybe not we'll see. her thoughts were sent reeling in contemplation as she began to wonder what his true goal was.
"So tell me Mr. Hero, what brings you here?" she asked him while taking another bite of her cheesecake. Noticing his own dessert Kaori smiled secretively, Likes Strawberry Cheesecake, okay he can't be too bad. she thought jokingly to herself. She had to admit aside from L, she didn't know anyone else who liked Cheesecake as much as she did. Biting her lip in nervousness she still couldn't read him entirely, and she didn't want to get the wrong impression after all that's what first impressions were for; they were often entirely wrong.

"Oh my day was the usual. I was running late when..." He would trail off as the guy left them alone obviously getting the picture that this was not the place for him. Mathew would continue sitting however taking his fork to his cake cutting off a small bit from the edge before placing it in to his mouth letting out a small pleased sound at the burst of flavor. He wasn't a sweet fanatic but he did have a sweet tooth.
He wouldn't even bat an eye when the lady asked him why he helped her considering she was a stranger. Of course it had to be because he had something to gain from it. No one did something just to be nice of course. But the question was expected, it was only natural after all. He wouldn't answer the question right off the back. Instead he would look up at her making eye contact and flashing her one of his more charming smiles.
"I'm Mathew...." He would say trailing off in a way that she would know he was waiting for her name. He wouldn't say anything else until she gave him some kind of a name to call her, it was only polite after all. It would be after she introduced herself that he would answer her question with a shrug.
"You know it could be any number of things. One reason certainly could be that you are cute. Another one could be that it is hard to find a seat as a guy here sometimes and this was the best way to get one. Or it could be because I go to school with those guys and they have a pretty bad reputation. Pick your favorite." He would say as he cut off another piece of the delicious cheesecake with his fork waiting for her response to his unique way of answering her question. He suspected a pretty girl like her wasn't used to getting any kind of sarcasm or wit from a guy when she asked a question. Probably used to guys jumping to please her. Sadly Mathew never did like jumping, he just wanted to see how this would play out, maybe kill a bit of time.

Kaori smirked wickedly as she heard him introduce himself, of course he left out his last name and she swished her hair haughtily, "Kaori." she finally replied after what seemed like hours. She wasn't about to actually give out her real name to someone especially with Kira around. No, she only gave it out to those she knew she could trust and that took months to prove. Sighing she nibbled once more on her cheesecake, so many ideas running through her mind as she tried to decipher and analyze him to the full extent; she did that with everyone she met now a days. The only person she could really trust was L and even then that only went so far.
Smirking at his sarcasm she toyed wtih her fork and stared at the book, "I'll pick the first one." she said jokingly, "The rest just sound so mean." she replied with the same amount of sarcasm buried into her words. He was descent looking there was no denying that but for Kaori she just wasn't the relationship type; honestly she couldn't keep one even if she tried. Truth was Sarcasm and her were close friends mainly due to growing up with L but that was a different story. She was used to the tone considering it was one L used with her every day. Aside from that however, she had to be comfortable. Hm...he doesn't seem threatening but I'm not pushing it. Sarcastic, possibly assuming; hm....not very good qualities for you Mr. Mathew. she thought with another smirk. "Now why don't you tell me the real reason as to why you stepped in, I'm not very good at guessing games." she quiped lightly.

"Kaori huh? Well thats a cute name." He would say with a grin as he sliced off another piece of his cheesecake before eating it. He would wait until he finished swallowing before speaking again. He wasn't an uncouth pig after all. Using his right hand to flick the bangs out of his face he would look across the table at her, his green eyes attempting to meet hers. Not so much for an intimidation showdown type meeting. More of a flirtatious 19 year old boy sitting across from a cute girl, even if she did seem to have a core body temperature colder then the Arctic.
"Mmm the real reason I stepped in? What if I told you I don't really know? That it just seemed the right thing to do? If I had to guess I would have to say it was a mixture of things. The fact that those guys annoy me, I thought it was funny how you burned the first one. Oh and lets not forget that you are indeed cute, though talking to you I don't think you are quite my type personally. You have the sarcastic sense of humor, but the sub zero temperature you are seeming to give off is a pretty good sign that you are not available. Though I am going to guess that you are technically single. So lets just go with I was interested."
He would say simply. He wasn't bad an analyzing people himself and he was sure he had a good read on her. Good enough for his purpose anyways, which was just as he said, he was determining if she was his type. And so far it didn't seem that way. He wasn't Kira or something like that that was hunting down investigators or the like, he supported Kira but he really didn't care about the investigation. If Kira could do what he does then he can handle himself, there would be very little that Mathew could do for him.
"Though if you want I am more then happy to leave you alone here. Who am I to force my company on you."
He would say with a shrug as he moved to take another bite of his cheesecake, waiting to see what she would say or do. He was serious he had no problems leaving if she decided that this interaction was over, he had gotten what he wanted out of it. But if she wanted him to stay, or at least didn't tell him to go then he was also content to stay not objecting in the least the chance to talk to a pretty girl, let alone a pretty girl that seemed to be smart. Though it was a bit too soon to really judge that.
