Appearance
Beyond Birthday is L Lawliet's almost perfect copy. He has the same non-tamable, yet soft, and raven colored hair, the same bags under his eyes, the ones that appear to be smudged on eye-liner because of how dark they are. Yes, his physical appearance is exactly the same as the young genius's, right down to the hunched over posture gained from so many years of sitting in a ninja-like crouch with his feet flat on what ever surface he chooses to sit on, knees pulled to his chest, one hand resting on his knee, the other curled into a loose fist with only his thumb jutting out to be placed at his lips as his nail is thoughtfully chewed.
The similarities, however, do not stop at merely the physical traits. No, they continue on to even the style of dress. Beyond Birthday's clothing also mimic L Lawliet's to a tee. He wears the same baggy, long-sleeved, and wrinkled white shirt as well as the same baggy, finger print stained (stained with dessert for L, blood for BB) dark blue jeans. Although, it is said that at times BB openly shows his disgust for the white shirt and will choose to don a much preferred black copy of said clothing item.
This brings us to the differences. There are very few of them between the pairs, save for one being a sadistic serial killer who loves strawberry jam while the other is a world renowned detective who loves sweets of all kinds. This is one difference that any person would notice if they were to see the pair standing next to them, the eyes of the killer do not match the eyes of his would-be captor. Where the detective's eyes are as dark brown as chocolate, his copy's eyes are a shade of crimson that can only make one think of blood.

N What I've Done ◊
place at least two paragraphs worth of history
As a child I was one of L Lawliet's first two successors, the only other being a child named A. However, this all changed after A began to feel to pressured, he could no longer take the amount of work and pressure required to be number one at Whammy's and killed himself. It was around this time that I stopped caring about the world around me. A had been the only child to befriend me and I failed to save him. I failed to save him even though I saw his numbers running out...
Shortly after A died I left Whammy's. I didn't tell anyone I was leaving, not even the great Lawliet. I just left. I went out a window one stormy night and never came back. That wasn't the last society heard of me though, no, far from it. After much time spent tracking murders and cases around the world in search of me, my dear little Lawli found me. What he didn't know at the time was that while I had been hiding from the world I had come up with a plan, a plan to surpass the great L and become the world's number one criminal.
He discovered I was still alive soon after I took one of countless victims, but the first for this case, Believe Bridesmaid. He was a 44 year-old freelance writer who was better off dead, his writing was torturous to read. I killed him on 31 July 2002 by drugging him and choking him to death with a rope. After he was dead I carved an intricate pattern into his chest for L to find and even re-clothed him. I left four Wara Ningyo at this murder site. But, even though I'd left the clues for L, it was Naomi Misora who discovered the carved designs in Believe Bridesmaid's chest were actually roman numerals made to spell out the next victims name.
The next victim in my plan was Quarter Queen. I killed her four days after Believe Bridesmaid. She was only 13, but that made killing her all the better. I drugged her before killing her, the same as with Believe Bridesmaid, but instead of strangling her like I had with the other I decided to use blunt force trauma her head to end her rapidly shortening life. Once I was sure she was dead I crushed her eyes while they were still in the sockets. I only left three Wara Ningyo at this murder scene.
My third victim was Backyard Bottomslash. She was a 28 year old bank worker who I killed 9 days after Quarter Queen. Like the others she was drugged before her death, but she was different. I wanted to use her for an experiment to find out if someone could die from an internal hemorrhage without rupturing any organs. In order to conduct my little experiment I first drugged her and then beat her left arm severely without breaking the skin. When this didn't work I killed her by removing her right leg and left arm. I left her leg in the bathtub, but took the arm with me. I left two Wara Ningyo nailed to the walls at this murder scene.
On 22 August my final murder was committed, this one in the form of suicide against none other than myself. Naomi Misora had arrived at the location of where she thinks the next crime will be, however, as she was waiting for the killer, Beyond Birthday, to arrive her mind began to piece together little bits and pieces of information until she realized that Beyond Birthday was the same person as Rue Ryuzaki (my alias at the time). She then raced to my location and managed to stop my attempted suicide by burning to death in time to arrest me.

N Take a Look ◊
at least two well-thought out paragraphs of personality
Beyond Birthday has an obsessive personality. The only thing that matters to him in life is besting the world's best detective, L Lawliet. Ever since he ran away from Whammy's he has been planning to out smart the man. He had every single detail planned, and every detail was made for L and L alone.
This plan was not the only obsessive feature the copy had though, he went as far as to dress and act exactly as his mentor did. The only difference in the pair's physical appearance was the eyes. Beyond also followed L Lawliet's every move, every single news article, web post, or discussion about the detective was cut or printed out by the killer and kept as a reminder of just what he was against.

roleplay sample
The wind whistled in Matt's ears as the brutal snowstorm picked up strength. His pour Eevee, it was so small and looked half frozen wrapped in his vest. As he looked down at it the small creature looked up at him with its liquid brown eyes, pleading for him to do something. Matt fought back tears and wrapped the vest tighter around the small creature, they were so close to the lake front, if only the could make it there, then they would be able to make a makeshift lean-to in the surrounding forest area. Matt doubled his efforts, forcing his way through the mid-shin-high snow and whispering softly to Eevee, "Hold on a little longer, just a little longer and we'll be okay."
As he spoke Matt walked into something big, solid and...furry? He looked up and his eyes widened in surprise as his gaze found a snover, equally surprised, staring back at him. "A-a S-s-snover!" He exclaimed as the Eevee made soft sounds from his arms. As Matt attempted to back away he slipped on a patch of ice and Eevee flew from his arms and to the ground, almost completely lost in the snow. The Snover regarded the scene with a quiet disposition and Matt quickly forced himself back to his feet, it looked like they would have to battle. "Eevee, we can do this! Just like before! Start with dig, use it to hide in the snow!" Matt commanded as the Snover started towards the Eevee. Eevee cried out in reply, leaping up above the snow to look at the Snover, then diving back down beginning to dig a tunnel in the snow. At first snow flew from the hole as Eevee dug but then, as the hole grew deeper, it stopped and even Matt could no longer see where the tiny Eevee was.
"We've go the type advantage," Matt thought, "Ice only does half of the normal damage to normal type Pokemon." The Snover looked around confused, unable to find the tiny Eevee under all the snow. It took a deep breath, a bluish ball forming in its mouth, and upon releasing the breath a stream of ice crystals flew out in a fan formation, it had used an icy-wind attack. The attack, however, did nothing to effect Eevee as it had dug a deep tunnel under the snow. "Now, Eevee! Use dig on the Snover!" Eevee leaped out of its snow tunnel slamming into the Snover's side as hard as it could. Even with the extra effort it still only had half of the effect on the Snover. Matt gulped, this was going to be harder than he'd thought it would be.
"That's okay Eevee, we can still do this, quick before it recovers its balance, use iron tail!" Matt cried, hoping that Eevee could attack in time. Eevee yipped softly and crouched down wagging its tail in the air, slowly its tail began to turn a silvery color and Eevee began to rush towards the unbalanced Snover. As it neared the other Pokemon Eevee leaped into the air, and with a mighty cry, slammed its tail into the Snover's chest, causing it to cry out and fall back to the ground. Eevee landed on the ground, sinking a few inches into the snow, near by and Matt reached for an empty poke ball at his belt. "Good Eevee, now let's wrap this up! Go poke ball!" Matt threw the red and white ball towards the Snover quickly, while the steel type attack still left it weakened. The Snover disappeared into the poke ball in a red flash of light and Matt waited in anticipation as the poke ball moved back and forth and glowing slightly. After what seemed like forever the glow faded and the poke ball stopped moving, Matt had captured his second Pokemon.
