“Hey. Hey! Wake up, damn it! You can’t stay that way all day.”
You open your eyes and see the guy above you. His chin has a week’s worth of stubble and it looks like he hasn’t slept much, judging by the bags under his eyes. You close your eyes as you sit up, you head throbbing. You can’t remember anything.
“Were you attacked or something, mate?” The guy asks you, but you shrug. No memories return yet.
Rather than stay leaning over you, the man sits down. “You don’t remember, huh? Let me try and jog your memory. You’re in Woodall. That’s the city’s name. Or that’s what it’s called now, mainly because most of the road names seem to be trees.
“There used to be a prison here; nothing special, but new, big and high-tech. But being high-tech, there had to be a bug somewhere, and when it hit, all the inmates escaped. The city went downhill from there. It seemed the prison inmates had always been divided though, and the divide spread to the city. One set of inmates became what are now known as the Hopscar Vikings. They’re strong and good at fighting, generally. The opposing gang are the Northam Predators. They’re not so good at fighting, they prefer guns and technology.
And now the city is split. The northeast half, with Jones Lake in the middle, belongs to the Predators. The southwest belongs to the Vikings. The only places that have remained neutral are the Hospital grounds and the Fire Station, by mutual consent of the two forces. But everywhere else, everyone else, belongs to either one or the other. Whether you just live in one place and pay a protection tax, or you regularly go around seeking out enemy gang-members, everyone is involved in a gang.”
The man slowly turns to you. “So, Vikings or Predator. Which one are you?”
