School. The place youth are sent to after merely a few years after birth and, if one plans to have a successfully career, is in school for about half of one's life. But why does it have to be so boring? the young girl thought, her mind restless as it tried to be less... bored... She gazed out the window, and those that would know, could be said to look similar to Raito the day he spotted the death note falling from the sky and landing on earth. But lets not get too far ahead of ourselves, shall we? Chi, a young genius in her own, sat, trapped in the confines of the school, stuck in the routine started at such a young age, her easily excelling though things with perfect grades, aside from hose few years in high school she didn't even care whether she would wake up the next morning when she found herself with a broken heart caused by her closest friend and lover, her first love, when he confessed his love to her best friend. Her grades slid and threatened her future until she was finally snapped from her deep depression and did any extra credit project her teachers could offer plus getting the perfect grades on regular assignments and grades as before. She sighed and began humming to herself as she sang the lyrics within her head.
Wake, sleep, turn and repeat again It's time to change your life The weeks are dead you kill for the weekend It's time to stand and fight
'There must be more to this life' you say 'Than working for the man every night and day' Money can by you your fancy cars But it won't make the person you are
Her attention was jerked away as a bird hit the window, knocking her from her little fantasy world. She let out a yelp and fell sideways out of her chair, it toppling over with her. She hit the floor with a thud as the same time as the loud crash from the chair hitting the floor. She held the side of her head as she sat up,t he whole class's eyes upon her, her cheeks faintly pink with a blush.

Heading down the hallway to the designated classroom, Raito was displeased. He didn’t like the fact that it was he who was given one of the fetching jobs, but he supposed it was only fair seeing as someone had had to come get him and most of the other members of the student council were doing the same. So instead of continuing his complaining, he instead sighed outwardly and listened to the echoing of the slight tapping his neatly polished shoes made as he walked. He told himself that the job wasn’t demeaning at all, and that once the unscheduled meeting was over he could simply head home after getting whatever notes and work he missed off of a classmate. While missing one class wasn’t going to make much of a difference, he still disliked the fact that he had to. It would be nice if he could, just for once, not have something extra to do so he could focus on his much larger goal. Still, the upkeep of the perfect university student image was just as important. If he changed his habits at all, people would notice – like his father, or L.
Keeping his strides even and almost careless in a way, Raito found the classroom he was looking for and made his way over to it, finally stopping and waiting a moment before knocking. But as he lifted his hand to do so, he heard a loud crash come from the inside of the classroom and he jerked his hand back slightly in surprise. What could that have been? He raised his head a bit to try and look in through the slightly transparent glass on the door, but couldn’t see anything but blurred images of a few people due to the glaze on the door. Finally, though, he decided that it didn’t really matter what was going on on the other side of the door, if it had been something overly important someone would have swung the door open and gone for help. So Raito shook his head lightly and finally knocked at a normal tone, being that he heard no other ruckus or anything else loud enough to keep him from being heard.
In response to his knock, the door was opening quickly enough and he stood at the door, looking up at who he believed to be the instructor. After being waved in, Raito took a few paces into the classroom. “Excuse my interruption, sensei. I’m here seeking Youkai-san. Student council has just decided to hold an unscheduled meeting.” He stopped speaking now after being sure to keep his tone respectful when referring to the professor, and only now did he actually look around the classroom. Needless to say, he was quick to notice a girl who was located right near a toppled chair. So that had been the crash.
Raito didn’t mean to be nasty to the girl, but he found himself hoping that that wasn’t this Youkai Chi he was seeking out. It seemed to him that she may have done something foolish, and he had a tendency to think down on these people. But there were plenty of others in the classroom who could be Youkai-san, so perhaps he was only jumping to conclusions. But regardless, he likely only had to deal with whoever this person was for an hour or so, anyway. And then again, everyone was entitled to a momentary lapse in composure, though he wouldn’t allow himself that.

Chi's head was throbbing, her thinking that the knock of the door was either something else she had caused to some crashing down, her just her now racing pulse taking a few louder beats than normal. She prayed her eyes deceived her as the teacher went to the door, the only thing on her ming being Just another person I'll be embarrassed in front of. She watched the door open out the corner of her eye as the hand not on her sore head began to gather together her supplies that had been knocked off in the excitement caused by her sudden shock of the bird hitting the window and the delayed, though now apparent, fear of the bird's safety. Chi felt her heart sink as she saw Raito walk into the classroom, him being the person the teacher ushered inside. "Great," she groaned aloud, though it was only supposed to be a thought, and her already pink cheeks grew brighter, everyone that had looked up to the star pupil looking back at her when she spoke. The sound of him asking the teacher to dismiss her for a meeting made her want to just hit her head again, though this time harder so that she would be knocked out and would be spared the embarrassment of all this for the time being, though the feeling of it would be doubled, if not tripled later. She pushed herself up and grabbed her chair off the floor setting it back in it's place. She quickly bent down and gabbed the fallen supplies from the floor, dropping a pen once she stood up straight again. She sighed and set down what she had picked up ion the edge of the desk and leaned down and reached under the desk to get the dropped pin, but hit her head on the underside of the desk as she tried to stand up, the recently picked up things, falling to the ground once more. She had let out a yelp as her already sore head was hit again and let out another groan of dissatisfaction as she leaned down and tightly gripped each thing she picked up, as not to drop it, stuffing it into the messenger bag she used as a purse. She quickly picked up her books and remaining supplies and headed to the front of the class, all eyes still on her. She stood in front of Yagami-kun and bowed, "I'm sorry for all that," she said quietly, and stood straight, "I am Chi."

Raito, scanning the walls of the classroom in an almost bored fashion, finally looked back to the girl he had noticed before at the sound of her voice. A rather displeased ‘great’ had been admitted, and he almost allowed an amused grin to cross his features, but he was now more unimpressed than anything. This was apparently who he had to escort… her use of a sarcastic word had proved that. He watched her set the fallen chair back to where it must have been before, and continued to watch as she set to picking up the things that had joined her in what he assumed was a fall. So she was indeed the origin of the crash he had heard outside the classroom door.
He considered going over and assisting her pick up her things, but she seemed to have that covered and he didn’t wish to draw any more attention to himself and believed that perhaps it would be more polite to the professor if he remained where he was. Raito just couldn’t believe that none of her classmates were offering any assistance… he almost found himself disgusted with the lack of courtesy. Had he been a classmate, he would have assisted. Finally, however, it seemed as though she had picked up the fallen items and he relaxed… only to see her hit her head on the underside of her desk and fall back again as the items rediscovered their place on the floor. Her yelp of surprise and pain reached his ears and he could no longer believe what he was seeing. How could anyone be so unbelievably clumsy? Was it just bad luck or a lack of coordination? Raito wondered if perhaps it was both… the last thing he needed was to escort someone to a meeting while they stumbled down the hallway.
Finally making a move to help her, he put his foot out and moved a couple small paces forward, not pleased with what he was about to do. Though he noticed she had decided to simply stuff things into a bag of some sort, and he now wondered why she hadn’t done that beforehand… it would have saved plenty of time. Now disgruntled and doing a good job of containing it, Raito took a step backward and looked toward the professor, offering an apologetic smile on the groaning girl’s behalf even though he hadn’t met her before. When he turned back around he watched the student approach him, carrying her books and other supplies as well as the bag. And even Raito was aware of the other students watching her. He almost felt sorry for the girl, though really it was her fault… although he was sure the pressure from being stared at probably hadn’t helped matters once she had set to try and clear things up.
Raito nodded to her, more in a way of acknowledging her approach rather than her apology as he didn’t really consider it on his behalf, though he still supposed he should address it. “Not a problem, but we should go now, Chi-san. Do you have everything?” He asked her as he motioned for the door, nodding to the sensei as a thank you as he began to head out, clearly eager to leave the classroom and get to the meeting.

Though she had noticed how he had started toward her when she was gathering her things for the last time, she had grown used to people not helping her. She was always that strange kid, smart and slightly crazy, the one you absolutely loved or hated, there was nothing in between when it came to Chi, whether it be caused by her mood swings, spurts of unnaturally high energy before crashing, but just as quickly being hyper again, or just her multiple personalities. It was rare to find her in a good mood, from he beginning of the day anyway, but once she was at school or wherever it may be fort he day, and she was surrounded by her friends, she would always grow unnaturally hyper once more, them all dancing, singing, and acting like a bunch of raving lunatics. How she always hated a few classes during the day, none of her friends being in them, and today was even worse. Her best friend, who took the seat right next to her, the one she had hit her head off of, was the person she always looked foreword to seeing. Her day hadn't started all that great either, missing her ride to school from waking up late, having to walk though a pop up shower just to get there, and being late to every class. And now she was forced to endure such embarrassment, and in front of the guy she had had a crush on since grade school, though he had never even given her a second glance. She had changed so much toward the end of middle school and going into high school, falling into darkness, her obsession with music, and her depression taking over. She gratefully followed after him, thinking she should have had enough sense to know he would be on the student council. She wanted to slap herself int he face to keep from looking up at him as they left the classroom, the door soon closing behind him. She couldn't hold back a sigh, but her mind slowly drifted to the thought of Kira, her becoming oblivious to anything outside her mind. She had often wondered who this savior to the world was. One day, she believed with all her might, Kira would indeed be god of the new world, it being one free of crime, and the closest thing to war would be a small argument over something such as 'who was the better team' or some similar concept. She was forced back to reality once more as she ran right into him from behind. She looked up at him, her cheeks seeming to glow bright red with a blush. "I'm sorry," she said, looking down, holding her books tightly to her chest, looking like a lost, sad, embarrassed, and confused child as she stood there, her ebony and blood red bangs hiding some of it, her blush gratefully shielded by shadows that her head casted.

Raito looked behind him as he exited the classroom, allowing the girl to walk in front of him before gently closing the door and then quickening his pace so that he could once again lead the way. He was surprised that she hadn’t responded to anything he’d said, so he eyed her curiously as they walked, all the while wondering how long this meeting was going to take.
Putting his hands in his pockets as they made their way down the hall, he briefly considered skipping the meeting. Although he knew doing so would look bad on his part – and not just on the behalf of the council, but more importantly on members of the task force… and L – he didn’t want to bother. An excuse wouldn’t be too hard to come up with. He could say that, being that the meeting wasn’t planned, he realized he’d had other things to take care of, and being that he’d been excused from class he decided to take care of these obligations at the moment that had best presented itself. Simple enough, yet he knew that it sounded false… a poorly constructed lie. Raito was smart enough to know that, if he found it sounded fake, L would too. After all, it seemed that they thought alike at times… it almost startled him. They were running against each other, too… whoever got caught first would die. But see, Raito had proof that L was who he said he was. Now all that had to be done was nothing but creating a plan to take him down - but that was proving to be much more difficult than Raito had anticipated.
Raito paused for a moment, stopping in the hall and looking around for nothing in particular. Perhaps he was so perturbed because he had so much to do, and while the meeting wouldn’t likely go past the time class ended, there was always that chance and Raito did not like spontaneity when it came to his plans. Naturally, this meeting didn’t sound pleasant to him in the least bit. And while he droned on his mind with complaints, he felt something hit him from behind. Eyes widening slightly at the surprise, Raito brought a leg forward to balance himself, and he turned around to see what had happened. As he did so, he noticed the blushing Chi and he scratched the back of his head just as she looked down in embarrassment. He found himself feeling sorry for her, and was also astonished at the lack of grace the girl displayed. He supposed it was almost charming… in a strange sort of way; but most of all he was proud of himself for his own poise.
Looking down at her, Raito kept his composure and remained as pleasant as he found he could. He smiled slightly, now looking at her shadowed face and bangs, and considered her for a few moments. “It’s fine… are you alright?” He asked, noticing now that his own bangs had fallen into his eyes and he brushed them back, still looking at her. He wondered how long getting to the meeting was going to take, but he figured it wouldn’t matter too much if he were late when accompanying someone. Plenty of excuses could derive from that, if need be.

Chi stood there, her cheeks burning brightly, the knowledge of that and the fact of whom she was in front of making them glow brighter. She bit her bottom lip ass he awaited his response, praying that the Raito she had at least seen would be the one to respond. Calm, cool, and collected. That by far was a good definition for the young man, not to count he was an absolute genius always scoring highest and excelling in everything he did. How could any girl not have a crush on someone who literally had it all? She tried to shake it though the years, pointing out he was out of her league, that she should stick to the more depressed, music obsessed junkies similar to that whom of which she called her friends. Chi had kept her head down, praying he wouldn't be mad or irritated. She and squeezed her eyes closed, but opened then, though her head remained down, when he spoke calmly. She turned her eyes up toward him after a moment's hesitation to see him push his own hair from his face. She wanted to look up, she wanted to look calm, she wanted to be one of the great people, though she herself had immense talent and was rather intelligent. she could never, and had never really wanted to, fit among the 'popular' people, not fond of always having attention pointed toward her, though it was clear her and her friends craved it with their stunts they pulled, the clothes they wore, the way they looked overall. She was often in fights for one of the people above her socially would make fun of her friends, though she didn't much care if and when it happened to her, but she refused to let her friends be disrespected in such a manner, especially by the type of people she had loathed most her life... excluding the person standing in front of her. She slowly lifted her head, praying the blush would either be too faint to see or be gone completely by the time her eyes met his. She hated eye contact, she always found herself getting in trouble because she often rolled her eyes when staring directly at someone else's, even though she rarely realized it. She more often stared at their eyebrows, or their nose to make them feel she was looking them in the eye, and it never seemed to fail. But she couldn't help but look up and stare straight into his eyes, and though she would want to look away, her cheeks still warm with blush, she didn't want to. Something about those brown orbs held her gaze. She couldn't even breath as she choked out a quick, "I'm fine," before she felt her lungs ready to explode, though she didn't, and couldn't show it.

The young man narrowed his eyes slightly, not in contempt or annoyance but out of consideration. The girl in front of him seemed skittish, and while that wasn’t what was making him uneasy, he found himself feeling about the same. The idea that time kept ticking away was clear in his mind, and he checked his watch… the same watch that would one day house a piece of the Death Note’s supernatural pages. Staring at the roman numerals and the hands that danced around them, he directed his gaze back to Chi, struggling with himself to not force her to dart down the hallway with him.
Noticing that it was taking her a while to respond, Raito turned to the side slightly and placed a hand in one of the pockets of his beige suit pants, though he kept his head looking in her direction. And finally she looked up, meeting his gaze. He kept his even and did not avert his eyes during the time she stared back at him, finding that keeping eye contact had always been rather easy for him. Perhaps it was because a less sophisticated part of him saw it as a dominance game… but Raito did it to show confidence. And he was a very confident young man, though he knew when and how to express that.
“You’re alright? Are you certain? It’s just that you seem rather worried… or distracted.” He continued in response to her quick ‘I’m fine’. Of course he didn’t believe her, especially considering the way she had said it… almost forced, yet not quite. He supposed that she was probably rather uncomfortable due to the amount of embarrassment she’d been made to face in such a small amount of time, but he found that rather petty. They had more important things to attend to, and she could therefore deal with such things later. He knew he would have, though he was also aware it may be difficult to hide one’s feelings if he were in her position. But he believed he would have been able to do it. After all, his current position as Kira, university student, and task force member required many faces, though he supposed he sort of mixed the last two. But still… in any of those positions, he required the ability of self-restraint and he had to hide how he was really feeling; always remain and appear together. Perhaps that was why he was who he now was… because only someone like him could handle the physical and mental pressures of being someone so god-like and being forced to hide it from the world.
Only now did he notice that the girl kept her eyes level with his once she looked up, even as she choked her two words to him. He supposed that was a good thing… she was now making an effort to appear a bit more confident than her body language was expressing without her consent. So he looked back, lifting an arm to scratch the back of his head before placing his hand back in his pocket. He wasn’t sure about what else he could say to her. She herself wasn’t offering up much in the means of conversation, and he didn’t know what he could talk about while she still allowed herself to appear so meek, though just by making herself look at him he let his opinion change ever so slightly. But Raito was also aware she was still blushing, and he found himself wondering when that would change. He didn’t really care about her banging her head under the desk as that affected only her, and he didn’t particularly mind about her walking into him either. It was Japan, after all, with it’s busy streets, and so he could overlook such a thing.
Resisting the urge to sigh, Raito decided to let things work out for themselves. If she wished to remain embarrassed, she could do so, but honestly, he wanted to know what he was going to be doing with the rest of the day if he missed the meeting.

Chi yearned just to be able to escape back into her mind, to make all of this not even matter, her emotions so far from her that one never showed through. No... She used that little way of avoiding reality and all it's pains, embarrassments, over joys, anything. She knew she would have to face the real world finally, so why not now? Because basically the most... simply perfect human being stood in front of her? But was that even a reason? Her blush faded ever so slightly, that making her feel slightly better, though her face continued to glow the bright pink. She should have known she was far from sounding convincing, but she had somehow hoped she wouldn't have to go into further explanation. She bit her tongue for a moment before saying in a quiet, though more calm than even she expected, "Yeah, I'm fine," she said, still praying to break eye contact with him. Chi's tongue toyed with one of the piercings though her bottom lip, the only way this being visible to those around her being the ring tilting side to side and being pushed around through her lip. This was among so many of her nervous habits, biting her nails, her bottom lip, looking at her watch every few seconds, her foot tapping nonstop. She started to take a step foreword, though stopped herself, her foot only pushing slightly as she tried to turn her head away, her blush continuing to fade in her favor. Whether is be real, or her mind taking desperate measures to try and distract eh elsewhere, she heard a crashing sound, which also brought back up the feel up embarrassment of falling to the floor, adding the possibility her mind was not going to let forget the happening any time soon. But, she was grateful to whatever the noise really was, who or what had caused it, and didn't currently care about it's effect to her slowly calming mental state, though she was the kind of person who kept beating themselves up over the smallest of things. She finally pulled her eyes away and looked past his head, beyond grateful to no longer be trapped in the little unspoken staring contest that just happened between them. "Let's go," she said, her voice still quiet, though still calm. Chi forced her leg up to take the first step, this pulling her into the ever so simple task of walking. Once she was barely past him, her face out of his view, her eyes went up, though focusing not on any specific as she kept mouthing thanks to whatever superior being existed.

Upon breaking the gaze, Raito allowed his eyes to search the hall that they stood in… still stood in. Either time was seeming to pass by much too slowly, or they’d made barely any progress toward their destination in the time since he’d pulled her out of the classroom. “We could be late, you know.” Raito said breezily, making it sound as though that idea really wasn’t much of a problem. But inside the young man was beginning to seethe. Why did some people assume that they could take up so much of his time without facing any consequences? He’d come to her for a purpose, not because he’d wanted to. But then again, for the moment it appeared that politeness urged him to remain stuck with her, and while he could have come up with an excuse to leave he believed that perhaps some sort of an advantage could come from having yet another acquaintance at the university. Besides, he was sure he’d already made it clear he wanted to make the meeting. An excuse would likely make things uncomfortable between the two if they were to meet up later.
Returning his line of vision to her face, he noticed she was beginning to appear a bit more comfortable, which, he was startled to realize, also made him more comfortable. It was strange how her attitude had actually caused him to tense unconsciously. Suddenly, however, an abrasive sound reached his ears and he looked around, then back to the girl. It hadn’t been her, strangely enough, and he found himself wondering in an amused manner if someone else was having as bad a day as she appeared to have been having. The sound seemed to have been derived from some sort of crash or fall, and while he wasn’t really intrigued in regards to the origin, it did make him rather antsy. All it did was remind him of the time, for whatever reason, and now he was desperately hoping that he hadn’t missed that accursed meeting.
It was strange how the easiest and simplest plans were the ones that so often went awry. He was grateful to himself that his ideas were often much more complicated… as long as he could keep track of them things would be fine. Nothing would be able to mess up the beauty of his plans, so long as things would go accordingly. And at that thought, Raito brightened.
Tracking Chi with his eyes, he noticed her beginning to finally progress forward, and he grinned to himself. Now he could get the school part of his day over with, and then head on to more important matters. At her words, he merely nodded and moved to follow her, taking easy, casual steps as he walked. He began by carrying after her, walking slightly behind, thinking that perhaps she would prefer that because she seemed almost wary of him… or at least that was the impression he had. But then he thought that that shouldn’t matter… why would he allow himself to walk behind someone? So Raito quickened his pace to walk beside her before slowing to match hers.
“You know where we’re heading?” He asked her, being that he himself wasn’t entirely certain. “I have the piece of paper here with the room number… it’s rather unfamiliar territory for me.” He said, pulling the paper out of his pocket, folded slightly. Offering it to her politely, he placed his other hand in the same pocket he had pulled the piece of paper from and continued to walk without faltering.

Chi, walking with her eyes closed, heard him comment on the fact they could be late. "I..I'm sorry," she admitted, her head lowering alightly as her shoulders rose to the sides of her head. "I'm sorry," she said again, this sime, though, instead of a whisper barely even heard by herself.
She ignored the noise that Raito had noticed, though he seemed to not act upon it, but the sound of his footsteps as he caught up to her made her want to speed up, her feet pulling her ahead as is she where quickening her pace, but immediatly stopepd herself and continued her feet moving at the tempo they where walking to a moment ago.
She lowered her head even more as he quickened to walk beside her before bitting her pale botom lip, her teeth giing one of the rings in her lip a hard tug, the pain seeming to... encourage her enough to bring her head up to it's normal, higher, though relaxed, position. The sound of the question made her look up to him in natural reflex as if he where anyother person. She lowered her head slightly as her eyes fall tot he paper he held out. "I'm horrid with directions," she said with a soft, nervous chuckle, "Can't remember where anything is half the time," she said, her shoulders raising up slightly as she looked slightly ashamed and embarassed.
She reached out and took the paper he held out, her eyes looking over the room number, it seemign familiar, and she was able to see the doorway of the classroom in her mind from being there before, or atleast passing it, but she was unable to remember how to get there. A second paper fell from the slightly folded one witht he number on it, her trying to see if there was any other way that there was somethign on it to help her remember it's location in the school.
Chi leaned over, her knees bending with her as her hand slowly picked up the paper, her seeing something out the corner of ehr eyes suddenly appear. She tilted her head to the side to see the beast known as a shinigami, her letting out a short lived, shrill scream, mostly out of shock of suddenly seenign something so... ugly? Horrific? A lot of words to describe the creature came to her mind, but as soon as she fell silent, she tilted her head to the side in a curious manner.
"Who are you?" she asked, "Why the hell would you dress... up... like..." she said, the words coming slower before she fell silent, ehr eyes growing wide once more as she saw the thing wasnt standing on the floor. Chi was about to let out another scream, but instead only a quick squeek came from her throat as she suddenly dropped her books. They all hit the ground with thuds as she backed against the wall, her palms agaisnt the cool surface.
"What are you?!" she finally demanded, her voice returning, "Why... Who... Why are you here?!" she cried as he only thing that her mind could come up with was that this thing yet to be known as Ryuk was. A shinigami. Her heart sped up, her not even remembering Raito was there until now, her eyes catching him not far from the god of death. "Why... What's going on?" she asked, her voice weak, almost like a whimper.

Raito closed his eyes for a moment, squinting them when he did so, shaking his head in the process. Why did she act so feeble? While he himself wasn’t overly pleased with the situation, he felt it would have been politeness on her part to assist him with the makings of something bordering on a conversation. It was really the least she could do, though he was also quite aware that it wasn’t her fault he’d been sent to get her. Things just happened to work out that way.
Why is the current president in his position if he’s unable to keep things properly organized? Raito grumbled to himself. The more he thought about it, the more he felt that the current president was unworthy. He himself didn’t desire for the position, and just being a member was taking up more time than he would have liked. Still, it was needed in order to appear as though everything was just the way it had been before. While he hadn’t completely wanted to join the council upon entering university, he felt that it was what he would have done had he not gained the Death Note. And a student of such quality as he should be an active, contributing member to the university as well as holding the same grade point average. And the more Raito thought about it, the more his life seemed to have become a juggling act; though he was hardly surprised at his own ability to hold everything together.
After all, that’s why fate had made him the god of the New World. All he had to do was fit the pieces together.
So when Chi apologized, Raito said nothing and merely nodded in answer after he let his exasperation slip, though that didn’t matter. It could have also been just as much of a sign of tiredness, and he’d use that to his defence if anything was brought up. Luckily, she didn’t seem to notice and after asking about the directions, he was pleased when she finally spoke something more of a full sentence.
Yet again, however, she gave him a more apologetic sort of reply, and he was now no longer certain why she was so sheepish. Can’t remember where anything is half the time? he repeated, I wouldn’t be surprised, his thoughts working into a hidden sneer, and he caught himself before he could say anything snide to her. No sense stirring anything up. Instead, he let her take the piece of paper he’d offered to her, and relaxed his posture slightly while he waited for her to read it. He slipped both hands into his pocket as he stood in the hallway with her, and just as he was able to calm himself, his heart felt as though it had skipped a beat and he almost stopped breathing as he watched another piece of paper fall from the folded one.
Eyes widening at the horror of what could be taking place, he managed to keep his body at ease, and with a slightly shaky arm he scoured the pocket he’d pulled the sheet from. In his haste to get to the damned meeting, he’d shoved the note with the room number into the wrong pocket. The small piece of the Death Note which he’d kept there neatly so that the paper lines wouldn’t show through his pants had gotten trapped within the folds of the other paper. And as the lined sheet fell to the floor, it was all he could do not to dive for it in haste.
And now he was wondering why he hadn’t done just that. A little lack of composure could have saved him a lot more trouble.
Still struggling to maintain the composure that meant so much to him, he barely let his breathing increase as he watched her pick it up. This was it. And finally, he let his eyes dart to the shinigami, not daring to make a move until he was absolutely certain, hoping against hope, that it was the piece of the Death Note. Why he’d kept it there for so long was beyond him, and a stupid risk at that. He’d need to find a better place to put it from now on, and at that thought he lifted his arm to scratch the back of his head, eyes catching the watch. Yeah… that would work.
Looking at Ryuk, he hoped the death god would notice that he was staring at him, but Raito made certain he moved his head subtly, and not all the way so that it would appear to be a direct stare. Raito needed to figure something out quick while a million ideas were running through his head. He could act as if he didn’t see Ryuk, though that likely wouldn’t work well, or he could even pretend to be just as shocked as Chi. But doing the latter could result in her going around the university, telling people about the strange creature she’d seen in the hall with him. Raito didn’t even want to consider what that could do to him. He was left with very few options, and the best one that he could see was acknowledging Ryuk’s existence and remaining calm. And he had her name. If he needed to, he’d concoct a way to kill her. And from the sound of the shrill scream that reached his ears, he was thinking that was exactly what he had to do.
Raito lost all manner of politeness now, narrowing his eyes and allowing a hard look to come to them. “Quiet,” he whispered, darting around the hallway with his eyes. No one seemed to have heard it, and if they had they hadn’t come down their direction to investigate, and thankfully no one was in the hall. Raito did not want to be seen with a girl who was pressed up against a wall in fear while he stood there with an expression he knew wasn’t all that characteristic of how he appeared to members of the university. “Act nonchalant. He’s been here the entire time, and I can assure you that he won’t hurt you,” he said lamely. Much as I’d like to… he added to himself.
Deciding to ignore the fact that he had clearly made a very stupid mistake and just deal with it now, Raito sighed, wondering exactly how he was going to do that. Already he was going through plans in his mind, most of them on when and how he could kill her if he felt it needed to come to that. But he’d have to get inside her head first to see just how much of a risk keeping her around was going to be.

As the girl's hand reached for the paper, Ryuk's lips turned upward into a sharp grin. Things were finally going to get interesting. After following Raito to retrieve this girl, and enduring her endlessly unrequited advances, he was going to be introduced, whether Raito enjoyed it or not. He observed her wide-eyed panic with glee, and heard her questions with even more good will. He drew himself up taller, only to arch his back once more, albeit at a gentler angle, and then gave his wings a prideful shake. Satisfied with the looming nature of his posture, he began, rather bluntly, to answer the mortal's inquiries.
“My name is Ryuk, and even if you could tell me your name in return, there's no need, I'm aware of it already, as well as a few other things, but those don't need to be shared just yet.” he said. “Now onto your next question. Dress like what? Don't go mute on me now, it's not often I get fashion commentary from, hrmm, well, someone dressed like you. On that note though, it's not often that mortals focus on my clothing when they're so close to death.” Ryuk savored the words as they spilled from his tongue and grinned wide, making sure not to let the deadly glint of his teeth go unnoticed. Realizing his exaggeration would be apparent to Raito, he turned slightly to smirk and view his companion's reaction. Seeing worried eyes and sensing something even deeper than worry, something more akin to fear, Ryuk's eyes narrowed with brutal intent. Turning back towards the cowering girl, he continued his address.
“Hyuk, hyuk, odd that you'd mention hell. You're dangerously close to going there, or are you still too shocked for that to sink in? You see, I'm a shinigami, and that piece of paper you touched came from my notebook.”Ryuk paused to tap the Deathnote at his hip with a crooked finger.” If you do anything I disagree with, all I have to do is touch the page that piece was ripped from, and then I won't have to worry about sitting through any meetings today. For now, stay on my good side and try not to look like a squirrel among wolves. Keep quiet, there is a lot left to do. You asked why I'm here, well, there are two reasons for that. The first is that I have these wings, and they make getting places sort of easy, the second reason is for him.” At this, Ryuk turned to point Raito out to her, and while his back was turned to her, he bared his teeth playfully at Raito. Swiveling back around, he once more faced the girl, and continued his tirade. “I'm here because that man standing across from you, hyuk hyuk, he is, hmm, how to put this without giving you a heart attack? He is...not afraid of me, at least not compared to your little display. I'm here to help him know what it is to be afraid, and he's here for his own reasons. You can ask him to explain them to you.”

With her heart thudding as hard as it was, Chi almost considered it to be a wonder it wasn't easily heard by anyone nearby. The young woman simply couldn’t calm herself, the shock of seeing such a creature far from vanishing. Another scream welled up inside her, but her quick, uneven gasps for air left her with just another squeak as a pathetic excuse for a cry for help. She no longer attempted to pry her eyes from the being that was so close to her.
The sound of Raito’s voice snapping at her to calm herself seemed like a blur of words in her mind, them having no meaning, and certainly no effect. Her mind was able to grab the last few words and she clung to them with her entire being, that this thing wouldn’t hurt her. Her mind continued to scream at her, telling her she should run, figure out what was going on, something. But no sounds other than the squeaks came from her through and her legs were frozen.
The grin on shinigami face was certainly far from comforting. Chi felt her throat go dry as it spoke to her, her eyes somehow growing wider than they had already been. How could he know her name? Certainly there was some way that he could know her name. Could he have heard it when Raito had asked for her in the classroom? That seemed to be the most logical explanation, considering the fact that Raito had said he had been there the whole time. But sadly, like most of the other things he had said once the thing was revealed, it was barely even thought about.
…When their so close to death was what finally brought her to the floor, her knees buckling, her legs no longer able to support her weight. Her hands attempted to catch herself, them pressing against the wall to try and slow the fall enough to pull herself up, but with such little strength actually put into the useless efforts, her knees were soon pressed against the cold, hard floor. “I-I-I,” was the only sound she was able to form with her voice at that moment. Her mouth hung open, and she did suddenly feel as if this creature would kill her, right then and there. The fact he mentioned hell was another thing that made her only that much more certain he was about to kill her. She was one who didn’t much believe in the possibility of heaven or hell, or the gods that might have something to do with either, but this little event had certainly turned those thought around. The sight of a shinigami turned all she once believed to be true was turned upside down, and now, here she sat, upon her knees, and, in her mind, facing certain death.
Chi finally turned her eyes to Raito for some sort of assistance in all this. What was going on? Why was that thing with him? She gave him a pleading and fearful look, her hazel eyes looking more yellow now. With her mind finally starting to work out what he had said before, she slowly reached out, a shaking hand grabbing one of her books. She had to stay calm, though it seemed a little too late for that. She continued together her belongings that remained in her reach, her head down, her face now hidden from both of them. Fear kept her from looking at the creature names Ryuk, and a bit of shame mixed with other things prevented her from looking up to Raito.
Chi felt her eyes burn with tears from embarrassment and the fear of dying. The feeling forces her to close her eyes to fight them back to prevent them from streaming down her cheeks, which, in turn, would only add to her embarrassment. She couldn’t keep going on like this. Being so scared, She had to know everything. Now.
She shook her head ever so slightly and blinked away the tears that threatened to fall from her eyes. With a hard bite to her bottom lip (she often did things like this to make her do something that she was either scared of doing or saying, or just didn’t want to), Chi lifted her head and looked up to Raito, her eyes immediately staring straight into his. “W-what’s going on?” she asked, trying to hold her voice steady, something inside her yelling for her to stand up and demand every detail as to what was going on, why she suddenly saw Ryuk, and why, exactly, he was there because of Raito.
