Alone, on a comfy arm chair, Ed sat with his eyes closed, in deep thought. He attempted verbalizing his thoughts, but all that decided to come out was "Kira, killer, Kira, killer..." and so on. It was not until he finally got his thoughts straight that he began talking to himself.
Talking to oneself, while it may also be a sign of madness, can also be a sign of genius. Some minds register thoughts better when these thoughts are verbalized. Ed wasn't sure if his mind was like this, but he wasn't about to take any chances.
"So, Kira is able to kill from a distance, without needing to be at the scene of the crime. His preferred method of murder is cardiac arrest. From the reports I've read of L's confrontation, he does not like to lose, and may be considered something of a hot head. Then again, there's always the chance that L caught him on a bad day. Maybe he just touched a nerve. Well, that's of no consequence, I suppose..."
He shuffled through papers on the table in front of him, occasionally drawing a few diagrams, and writing what he said. Some minds also register what they see. And so, Ed covered that base, as well. "Now, if Kira is in the Kanto Region of Japan, which has quite a large population, that would make it very tough to catch him. Not only that, but it also gives him more targets to use as hostages. This may also work to our advantage."
He drew a sort of stick figure diagram, not much to distinguish it from any other. "This is the police officer, or CIA Agent, or what have you. And these..." He drew numerous stick figures in front of, or rather on top of, his original figure. "And these are civilians. Kira may not be able to distinguish between the agent and the civilians. Also, even if he does know he is in danger, he will have trouble seeing the agent's face. And even then, he requires a name. Though, it appears that is not always the case. If there is a second Kira, who only needs a face, then..."
He laid back, and sighed. "Most would say evacuate any place where Kira is suspected to be. However, that simply puts our own lives in danger. If we're going to catch Kira, we've got to be willing to risk civilian casualties. But do the ends truly justify the means?"
Peering into the darkness, he rethought his actions. He had changed his physical appearance, abandoned his true name, and moved from New York to Los Angeles. What more was there? Well, he could also move to Japan, and increase the probability of him finding something related to Kira...
"Bah, I'm obsessing again. Let L handle it, E. It's his business..."
But, although his voice was full of conviction, in his heart, he knew what he wanted to do.
"My country may come first, but god, I wish we were involved..."
