a dream is a wish your heart makes
when you're fast asleep
in dreams, you will lose your heartaches
whatever you dream will come true
when you're fast asleep
in dreams, you will lose your heartaches
whatever you dream will come true
Ever since it's opening in 1971, Disney World in Orlando has been known as "The Happiest Place on Earth." Every year, billions of people flock to Disney theme parks around the world but none so much as the Magic Kingdom. The first Disney World park to open in Orlando, the Magic Kingdom holds such attractions as Cinderella's Castle and the classic boat ride It's A Small World. It truly is a place of dreams and childish wonder..no matter what age you are!
At the beginning of 2008, the park looked to almost double the previous year's influx of people. The CEO's and other various head honchos at Disney Corporations were sure of their success. That is, until all their workers--characters, greeters, performers, etc--all disappeared. Disney, though ruffled a bit, assumed they'd all quit for whatever reason. They refused to comment to the press and tried to keep the park running as smooth as normal, despite the missing characters.
have faith in your dreams and someday
your rainbows will come shining through
no matter how your heart is grieving
if you keep on believing
your rainbows will come shining through
no matter how your heart is grieving
if you keep on believing
Except what is Disney World without Cinderella or Mickey Mouse walking around amongst you? Guests agreed and soon the number of visitors per day dropped drastically and complaints were filing in by the hour. Disney knew that in order to maintain their numbers they needed to do something a do it fast. Claiming to soon be opening a new "Dreams and Wishes" campaign --a combination of several they had had in the past-- they managed to placate the public while they desperately tried to fix their problem.
As a part of their new "campaign", Disney recruited people ages 18-30 from across the country to come and work for them. They would be able to live right inside the park and live, eat, and breath Disney for as long as the campaign lasted. When Disney would find a more permanant fix. Disney fanatics lined up at audition locations, sent in video tapes and letters and soon Disney CEO's were finally seeing the light at the end of the dark dark tunnel they'd been in. By the beginning of the summer season, they were moving in their new recruits.
the dream that you wish will come true
a dream is a wish your heart makes
when you're feeling small
a dream is a wish your heart makes
when you're feeling small
For the new recruits, it really did seem like a dream come true. They'd been offered the oppurtunity of a lifetime and couldn't wait to start. Everything seemed really like a dream come true. Except, not everythimg is as it seems. Upon arriving to the Disney park they were escorted along with their belongings, not to one of the resorts, but to an underground bunker-turned-living quarters. Surrounded by so much concrete and Disney paraphenalia, the recruits soon realized that this wasn't all going to be fun and magical.
Slowly but surely, Disney began to set down and enforce rules. Such as specific meal times, if you weren't there by a certain time you didn't get that particular meal. After the park closed, they weren't allowed to linger for a bit and were told to be in the bunker by 10:30 at night for lockdown. The then had a mere half an hour before light's out. A half an hour to return their costumes and props as well as prepare for bed. If that wasn't bad enough, they were woken up at 5 a.m. every morning and forced to attend an assembly shortly thereafter to "discuss the events of the day." It was a nightmare disguised as a mouse.
alone in the night you whisper
thinking no one can hear you at all
you wake with the morning sunlight
to find fortune is smiling on you
thinking no one can hear you at all
you wake with the morning sunlight
to find fortune is smiling on you
Then one night, one of the younger recruits finds a secret way out into the park. It isn't long before word spreads through the group and everyone is doing it. They find that a few of them know how to operate the rides and soon they begin to run wild through the Magic Kingdom, doing what they will. Their nightmare seemed to be over, at least secretly. But there is always that dark cloud on the horizon. This one was more like a swarm of insanity.
Not long after discovering a way above ground, strange things start to happen. Glimpses of men with large, scarlet feather hats and swords and girls in pretty dresses. For awhile, they all believe it is each other goofing around in the costumes. Until the young man who's job was playing Peter Pan came face to face with his boyish counterpart and his tribe of lost boys. Yet, when the costumes were checked they were different from the ones the other Pan had been wearing. Something was definately up and Disney seemed to be hiding it. Could this be what really happened to the old Disney workers?
don't let your heart be filled with sorrow
for all you know tomorrow
the dream that you wish will come true
for all you know tomorrow
the dream that you wish will come true
After these "real" characters were discovered, the recruits began to be cautious when they went out at night, if they went at all. After all, if Peter Pan was running wild through the park that mean Captain Hook was out there somewhere, too. As well as every other disney villain. It became like a sort of war--the "reals" against the recruits. All of it happening after the park closed and the lights went out. And the "reals" were well aware that the recruits lived somewhere in the park. It became a struggle to keep the bunker hidden.
Soon the "reals" began to make appearances during the day, wreaking havoc on whatever and whoever they came across. The recruits, having been Disney fans, knew that in order to keep the balance between reality and dreams they must keep the "real" characters from announcing themselves to the world. Not to mention, Disney would blame them should anything happen. Now, at the end of the summer of 2008, the fight between the "reals" and the recruits has truly begun.
