Alright, since I'm going to be gone for a while, I'm making a page with all my info on it so that I don't forget anything...
Dazzle AKA Franz Kristian Datzel
How He Got His Name: Dazzle was always an exceptionally bright student, and he usually bewildered his instuctors with his linguistics in both writing and oratory. "Dazzle" was the nickname he was given for several reasons: His ability to "Dazzle" his instructors and audience with his intellect when necessary, the similarity between "Dazzle" and "Datzel," and the irony in that the name "Dazzle" conflicts with his usual persona. Upon meeting him, many people thought Dazzle was gay, so he often adds something after introductions to stop people from getting the wrong impression of him, unless he wants to gauge their reaction.
Opinion On Kira: I really wanted to create a "neutral" character, but since the Kira situation is so polarized, he has to take some sort of stance. Dazzle has always been somewhat indifferent to Kira in his killing of criminals, because he could really care less what happens. Dazzle also has a strange obsession with Kira's manner of killing, its mysteriousness, and its power. But then again, he has an interest in knowledge in general. Although he has no problem with Kira, what worries him is that someone less logical than Kira somehow discovers how to use Kira's power. Part of him envies Kira, part of him fears Kira, part of him detests Kira, and most of him doesn't care. So I guess that makes him neutral.
One thing for sure is that Dazzle does NOT regard Kira as a god. Dazzle is an atheist, and believes in no higher power, unless he finds convincing evidence otherwise. Dazzle thinks that Kira is most likely a person, or perhaps an organization, and that everything can be explained. In fact, he sees several human "weaknesses" in Kira, which is one reason he only supports the cause not the killer.
Mentality: Like many "elite" students, Dazzle is a perfectionist and possibly could have OCPD, but not for the typical reasons. He seems benevolent and kind-hearted when dealing with people, because he usually just acts on a whim I guess he could be considered good at heart. He is never outwardly mean or vicious, although he tends to use sarcasm to belittle people he finds annoying. Sometimes he is a bit bipolar with his thoughts, being really peaceful at times while being borderline paranoid at others. In general, he hates all people to a certain degree, and likes all people to a certain degree. His "friends" typically aren't people he is close to though, because although kind, he finds it hard to make any real relationship with anybody.
Dazzle has a very nihilistic side to him. He doesn't believe in God or other people, and not even in himself that much. He believes that there is no point to anything or reason in the universe. However, he also follows the philosophy that he should be as successful as possible in order to "stick it" to the universe which is predetermined to destroy you in the end. This is part of the reason he tries so hard at everything; to tell off the universe which holds no values. The reasons he does thing is because he CAN and wants to prove he CAN, not because he has any moral affiliation with anything. He not only wants to expect the unexpected, he wants to BE the unexpected. He sees the universe's randomness as it's most endearing quality. He is also a little be anarchistic, with no desire to lead or follow others; simply to do what he pleases.
Although a fan of randomness, Dazzle is fascinated with his own sense of "logic." He is fan of strategy games and always thinking as if life was a game, although the way he plays games is a little unorthodox. Dazzle's position on games is always to do the unexpected when possible; making "logical" moves is exactly what the opponent expects. He is obsessed with success, but the way he likes to achieve success is through a series of planned "surprises." Although risky, this strategy has continuously payed off throughout his life.
Dazzle blacks out when he has to perform in public, such as when giving the speech. Afterwords, he can't remember anything he did or said, although he is always told that he does an excellent job when he blacks out. I'm not sure if this is any particular disorder, right now I'm looking at it like a coping mechanism since he is usually afraid to be in public.
ASPIRATIONS: Right now, Dazzle's main focus is "beating" To-Oh, which further proves himself as one of the world's top minds. To-Oh is probably the most prestigious university he has been to yet, so he is excited to compete against the rest of the student body for the top spot. Along with over-achieving in school, he also plans to over-achieve pretty much everywhere in his life, including any clubs he may or may not join at To-Oh.
As mentioned above, Dazzle does things because he CAN. He finds no real point in life other than to prove himself better than other people and become a meaningful person in a meaningless universe. He holds no affiliation to any cause really, just himself becoming successful. He abhors the imperfection of the universe, but rejoices in its randomness, because he believes that it is the only quality that makes living worthwile. Dazzle likes to stir the pot and push the limits of what can be done, making him a bit of a loose cannon at times.
Dazzle feels no need for a single job, he wants to do as much as possible. However, there are several routes Dazzle could go in the future, which I am debating right now. I'm thinking of putting him into politics, and making him an intern with the German embassy in Japan...
RELATIONSHIPS: (Let me know if there is info you want to add on your character)
FRIENDS:
Satsu - Satsu was the first person Dazzle met upon coming to Japan. He strangely took him in, but Dazzle accepted the hospitality. He buys a meal for Satsu at least once a week as a sort of rent, and also helps out Satsu when he needs it.
Roz - Met him before his slightly regrettable trip to a hospital. He is from Germany too, so they share a common bond there. Although usually apathetic, he took a liking to Roz at first because he felt bad for him, but secondly because he was a pretty cool guy.
NEUTRAL:
Shinichi - Dazzle really doesn't know Shinichi, other than that he got pushed around at To-Oh one time. He came off as a nice guy though, and not a failure in his eyes. Room for a possible friendship here.
Chi - Met at To-Oh, and the first person to introduce herself to Dazzle. Have to see where this goes...
DISLIKE/ENEMIES:
Starlen - Came off as a spoiled teen princess to Dazzle, definately classified as a "failure." Not much experience with her to call her an enemy, but there is definately some tension between them.
Ok, I think that is about everything that really matters for now, everything else is pretty much trivial...
